Our goal is to engage students in all that health care has to offer and to help them to prepare and succeed. We offer a number of different programming and events for students of all ages to learn more about the variety of careers offered at MaineHealth and provide exposure to these areas as they develop their career goals and aspirations.
The Inside Medicine Program is a virtual, statewide program hosted by the MaineHealth Workforce Development Department, Maine Medical Center Department of Medical Education, and Tufts University Medical Students. Current high school students are invited to explore the fascinating world of medicine, hear from MaineHealth clinical professionals, connect with other like-minded students in the state of Maine, and solve medical mystery cases with the guidance of Tufts University Medical Students. Registration is now open for our 2025 Inside Medicine Summer Sessions! We encourage interested students to register as soon as possible as our program tends to fill up quickly. The Maine Medical Center Junior Volunteers program is a year-round program that offers the opportunity for students ages 14-17 to volunteer in a variety of capacities within the hospital setting. Students aged 18+ are accepted into the Maine Medical Center volunteer program as adults. Learn more and apply here!

During the summer months MaineHealth Institute for Research (MHIR) provides undergraduates with an opportunity to engage in biomedical research projects through the MHIR Summer Undergraduate Research Program. Research at MHIR covers the spectrum of biomedical science in our various Research Centers: Center for Molecular Medicine, Center for Clinical and Translational Science, Center for Interdisciplinary Population & Health Research, and the Center for Applied Science and Technology.

Our annual summer student nurse employment program is a highly competitive and successful program. SNEP is designed for nursing students entering their final year of nursing school. The program offers 30-35 students the opportunity to experience, first-hand, the role of the professional nurse and to augment their clinical experiences during a paid work program under the guidance of RN clinical preceptors. In partnership with Tufts University School of Medicine, the Maine Track Program offers a unique opportunity for medical students to study directly in the communities they serve. Students benefit from a mixture of training sites across Maine – urban, rural, community-based – so students gain hands-on experience with diverse patient populations. As the only tertiary training center in Maine, and the primary training site for the Maine Track program, MH Maine Medical Center provides students with a blend of training experiences that prepare students for their career of choice.

MaineHealth supports students enrolled in advanced practice provider (APP) degree programs by providing clinical mentorship and educational pathways that lead to experiences, well-rounded graduates who have the experience and skills needed to enter Maine's APP workforce.
The Advanced Practice Provider Education Office serves as the centralized liaison for all APP student clinical placements across over 7-- MaineHealth care locations. We work with the school the student and the preceptor to secure a placement and handle the administrative paperwork associated with clinical clearance and access to ensure the student has everything they need to start their rotation. MaineHealth Maine Medical Center (MHMMC) is an independent academic medical center serving our local diverse communities, as well as serving as a tertiary referral center for the entire state of Maine.
