With a history dating back to 1864, Maine Medical Center is the state’s largest medical center and the flagship facility of MaineHealth, with 637 beds and more than 7,000 employees. From tuition assistance and scholarships, to ongoing education, leadership training, mentoring and promotion opportunities, we offer the resources you need to achieve your career goals. These include:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training – Our CNA program was developed in affiliation with Portland Adult Education. This 10-week program is tuition-free and includes classroom work, skills labs and clinical experiences. While enrolled, students can serve in a paid position as a Nursing Companion, and upon course completion, take the state CNA exam to obtain the state-required CNA certification.
  • Student Nurse Employment Program (SNEP) – Each summer, we offer the Student Nurse Employment Program (SNEP)Student Nurse Employment Program (SNEP) to an average of 35 student nurses. This is a 15-week, full-time program through which students entering their final academic year have the opportunity to experience the role of the professional nurse first-hand. This successful program provides career growth opportunities for internal staff, as well as engaging students in opportunities that ultimately lead to employment following graduation.
  • Academic Affiliations and On-site Clinical Training – As you would expect, Maine Medical Center is the principal clinical site for academic programs from a variety of schools across and beyond the state. We are proud of our long history of providing a rich experience for those individuals who are pursuing a career in the exciting healthcare field. Current programs include: Nursing, Certified Surgical Technologist, Radiation Therapist, Pharmacist Training, Physical and Occupational Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Social Work and Nutrition Services.

Our location in beautiful Portland is also a great reason to join us. Our city has been recognized numerous times as a metropolitan hub that features award-winning gourmet dining, diverse cultural activities and a variety of sporting attractions. The city itself is located on a peninsula in Casco Bay. Here, you will find a wealth of activities, and the mountains of western Maine are just 45 minutes away by car. So whether your preference is hiking or skiing; biking or walking; sunbathing or sailing – or even doing nothing at all – you don't have far to go to find it in Portland. If you like to explore larger cities, Boston is less than a 2-hour drive away.
