Position Summary

The Motyl Lab is hiring a postdoctoral research fellow to work with a friendly and supportive team investigating interactions between the nervous system and bone tissue. The research fellow will be expected to lead projects and to collaborate and coordinate with other laboratory staff, senior investigators, and students, as well as take part in training and mentoring students. The majority of the research will take place at MMCRI in Scarborough, ME, but occasional travel to conferences, courses, or collaborating laboratories may be required. Research fellow training will be tailored to the individual’s career goals and may include writing fellowship grant applications. MMCRI and MaineHealth also offer opportunities for teaching at the graduate level, community outreach, wellness and professional development.

The candidate must be highly motivated to excel and demonstrate an aptitude toward organization, planning, hypothesis generation, experimental design and data interpretation. Desired skills also include proficiency in standard laboratory and data analysis techniques such as qPCR, western blotting, sterile tissue culture, microscopy, histology and biostatistics. Some additional skills and knowledge that would be highly desirable include experience with mouse handing and procedures, advanced molecular biology techniques, techniques associated with bone and nervous tissue biology, second messenger signaling assays, pharmacology and/or bioinformatics.

Conducts a variety of complex laboratory procedures and is able to conduct independent research in consultation with the principal investigator.  The research fellow has a sufficient level of experience, expertise and independence to conduct a defined research project, including project inception and design, implementation, and completion, with reporting of results in a peer reviewed forum consisting of oral and written presentation.

  1. Education: A doctoral degree (e.g. PhD, MD, DO, DVM, PharmD)
  2. License/Certifications: N/A

  4. Communication skills that are sufficiently developed that the individual at this level will be able to present research results at regional and national research conferences
  5. The research fellow will have demonstrated a level of independence to perform laboratory responsibilities.
