The Myocardial Biology and Heart Failure (MBHF) Laboratory at Maine Medical Center Research Institute is seeking a Technology Manager to oversee all aspects of a small animal surgical program. Knowledge in the areas of cardiovascular biology and experimental biology disease models is desired. Previous experience in myocardial infarction surgery is preferred, but additional training will be provided as needed.  The long term goals of the MBHF laboratory are to determine the molecular mechanisms involved in the pathophysiology of heart failure and to develop new cell-based strategies to treat heart disease. This individual's primary responsibility will be to manage a small animal surgery program, which will include performing myocardial infarction studies in mice. Other responsibilities include laboratory management, supply management, and direct supervision of trainees. Opportunities will be provided to work collaboratively with other laboratory members on basic science aspects of clinical studies sponsored through our laboratory. Position availability is directly related to grant funding. 

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • May be proficient in operation of one or more applications within a specific technology.
  • Skills should include ability to troubleshoot problems and analyze the data obtained from instrumentation.
  • Must have good organizational and personnel management skills.
  • Project management skills, communication skills, both personal and written, business skills and schedule- planning acumen.
  • Visual acuity, manual dexterity, math skills and a scientific acumen required.
  • Bachelor's degree in specialized/relevant field or Master's degree, PhD preferred.
  • 2 years of directly related experience.
