Summary

MMC a 600 Bed Level 1 Trauma and  Magnet Facility, located in Portland Maine.is seeking a Burn and Wound Resource Nurse.  MMC Burn Center treats all patient across MH and NH.

The Burn and Wound Resource RN will partner with nationally known burn experts in leading this cutting edge exceptional program.  The burn program is in an exciting state of growth as the program is on the journey of preparing for Burn Center Verification.

MMC has a newly renovated state of the art procedure/ hydrotherapy room with advanced pain management technologies.  The program recently added laser treatment capabilities for scar management.  A second hydrotherapy room will be undergoing renovation in the next year for non-icu patients. . 

The Burn/Wound Resource Nurse position includes clinical and educational responsibilities for both burn and wound care, in addition to being an integral part of the Burn program leadership team.   This position works primarily with the Burn and Soft Tissue service, which manages burn injuries and complex wounds. 

Aspects of the role include:

  • Provides clinical expertise in burn and wound nursing care practice through direct and indirect care.
  • Provides leadership in the care of patients with burn injuries and/or complex wounds.
  • Helps to facilitate/ plan interdisciplinary burn team meetings, foster team dynamics and acts as a resource for Burn Team Members
  • Plans and provides education in the area of burns and wounds to interdisciplinary providers and consumers.
  • Provides expert consultation to health care providers and others to influence positive patient and family outcomes.
  • Ensures use of best practice and evidence based care
  • Follows patients through all phases of recovery including critical/acute care, out-patient care and reconstructive phases to help patients achieve the best outcomes.

  • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
    • Education: Knowledge of nursing theory, practice and education in order to develop and maintain a program in burn and wound care for inpatients, outpatients, and families acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's Degree program in Nursing, plus the attainment of CWCN certification by Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing organization.
    • License/Certifications: Current license and registration to practice professional nursing as required by the State of Maine.
    • Experience: Comprehensive knowledge in burn care and clinical nursing practices normally acquired during three years of progressively more responsible related experience. Experience with the support for Burn Center Verification/Accreditation is preferred
    • Interpersonal skills required to instruct patient and families and to serve as a resource person for registered nurses and other health care professionals in and outside the hospital who are involved in the care of burn and wound patients.
    • Analytical abilities necessary to serve as a resource, evaluate and revise educational programs based on experience and patient performance.
