Summary:
The Intern role provides administrative and project support within assigned department, while gaining valuable, hands-on experience in a healthcare environment.
Our department consists of eight team members: a Director, two Managers, four Analysts, and one Accountant. We are part of the MaineHealth Medical Group Southern Region and support all southern region practices. Our team is responsible for a wide range of critical financial operations, including:
• Developing annual practice budgets and physician targets.
• Supporting senior practice leaders with strategic financial guidance.
• Creating prospective pro forma for program expansions, physician additions, and other growth initiatives.
• Managing the capital budget for all practices. • Assisting with monthly financial close processes.
• Analyzing monthly financials and providing variance analysis of actual results compared to budget.
Additionally, we handle various daily financial tasks essential to the smooth operation of our practices. Our work plays a vital role in ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the southern region practices within MaineHealth.
During the summer, the intern will assist with financial and operational tasks that support the southern region practices. These tasks include:
• Staff Requisitions: Assisting with tracking and processing staffing requests to ensure accurate documentation and timely approvals.
• Capital Budget Support: Contributing to the preparation and analysis of the capital budget, including reviewing project submissions, gathering data, and developing reports to be sent to leaders.
• Operating Budget Support: Helping with the reconciliation of operating budgets, as well as assisting in variance analysis and reporting.
• Daily Financial Tasks: Supporting day-to-day operations, such as data entry, reconciliations, and other finance duties associated with maintaining financial accuracy.
These projects and tasks will provide the intern with exposure to various aspects of healthcare finance while contributing to the success of our team’s goals.
Preference will be given to undergraduate senior students who are studying accounting or finance.
