All summer internship applications require both a cover letter and resume to be considered. You may submit 1 cover letter that indicates the 1-3 summer intern positions you are interested in and why you think you would be a good fit.
Summary:
The Intern role provides administrative and project support within assigned department, while gaining valuable, hands-on experience in a healthcare environment.
MaineHealth’s legal department consists of twelve attorneys, including General Counsel, serving MaineHealth system-wide corporate functions, as well as Maine Medical Center and all other hospitals, medical offices and affiliated activities across Maine and New Hampshire. The department serves as MaineHealth’s primary legal services provider, with the exception of certain designated matters which are delegated to outside counsel. The team regularly does research and drafting, advising and strategy, and collaborates with all departments across the system. While health law is encountered on a daily basis, other areas of law encountered with some frequency include: administrative law, commercial transactions, employment and labor, tort/malpractice/litigation, family law, technology/security/privacy, intellectual property, real estate and planning, probate, environmental law, municipal law, and tax law.
Interns should expect to do research on a wide variety of novel issues, draft memos, attend various department meetings and join attorneys at client meetings. Occasional opportunities for attendance at hearings, mediations, depositions, trial, etc. may arise. More focused research projects spanning the length of the placement are common.
Preference will be given to students currently enrolled in their first or second year of law school.
