This is position is responsible for directing the general accounting functions of Maine Medical Center (MMC) and various MaineHealth (MH) system wide accounting functions. For Maine Medical Center, this includes but is not limited to the supervision and control over the General Ledger and subsidiary ledgers, gifts and other specific purpose funds, endowment funds, property accounting, debt, pension and post-retirement, cash and insurance accounting. For the MaineHealth system this position is responsible for the accounting of investments, reconciliation of due to/from between entities and quarterly write offs to equity transfers, sales tax, purchasing card, stock gift accounting, and malpractice, They are also responsible for centralized grant accounting function within the MaineHealth system This position also serves as a resource for MaineHealth members in terms of new accounting pronouncements and technical accounting reporting. Work is performed with considerable independence and is subject to administrative review and direction from the Associate Vice President of Finance.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
1. Education: Knowledge of accounting principles and accounting systems to maintain general ledgers and journals and prepare related financial statements and reports as normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and 10-20 years of progressive accounting experience.
2. License/Certifications: CPA or MBA certificate required.
3. Experience: See "Education." Previous supervisory experience required.
4. Knowledge and experience surrounding financial reporting requirements pertaining to Federal and State grants.
5. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when reviewing ledgers and preparing detailed financial and statistical reports.
6. Computer literacy is required. Extensive knowledge and experience with the Microsoft Office suite of products preferred. Lawson experience preferred.
7. Interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective on-going relationships and communications with various constituencies within and external to the organization. 8. Ability to speak and write effectively, communicating clearly through work paper schedules, memoranda, financial reports, and discussions with MH personnel.
