This position is for someone interested in joining the research team within the MHIR Physiology Core, MaineHealth Institute for Research, Scarborough, ME. This Research Assistant II will work under the guidance of the Core Manager, Victora DeMambro.
The Physiology Core’s mission is to provide high quality in vivo and in vitro metabolic phenotyping services for COBRE project leads, other MaineHealth researchers, and outside investigators. The successful applicant should have basic laboratory skills and previous experience working with mouse models of human disease. This candidate will conduct a variety of laboratory procedures: assist the Core Manager and other lab members in maintaining mouse colonies; set-up, operate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment; monitor experiments; make observations; and calculate and record results. The Research Associate II must be able to recognize problems or deviations in experimental conditions and notify appropriate personnel. After the onboarding and training phase, they should be able to master routine techniques and procedures relevant to the overall goals of the Physiology Core. Having previous experience in mouse husbandry, cell culture and statistical analysis would be beneficial, but we are willing to train the right candidate.
This position is a fully onsite role at our Scarborough, ME research facility.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
1. Education: Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required. Master’s Degree preferred.
2. License/Certifications: N/A
3. Experience: Four years of relevant experience with a Master’s Degree or six years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree required. Demonstrates competency in all essential functions of Research Associate I role.
