Summary

Summary:
A professional, clinical teaching position, providing teaching, curriculum development, and overview of the education of the Family Medicine Residents and medical students in Behavioral Health, particularly in relation to the biopsychosocial model of patient care, assessment and management of mental health and substance abuse diagnoses, interpersonal violence, motivational interviewing, , family-oriented care, and the doctor-patient relationship.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: Knowledge of psychosocial theories, therapies and techniques as used in individual, family, and group treatment at a level normally acquired through the completion of a Master’s degree in Social Work or closely related field of study, plus 2 – 3 years of progressively more responsible work experience – or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  2. License/Certifications: Current Clinical license in the State of Maine.
  3. Experience: Appropriate experience and credentials to obtain faculty appointment to Tufts University School of Medicine, and provider status to health insurers.
  4. Knowledge and skills in therapy and motivational interviewing to counsel patients, families, and groups.
  5. Interpersonal skills to teach residents, students and faculty regarding behavioral health, therapy and motivational interviewing, and to provide feedback through simulated patient experiences, videotaping and direct observation or student/resident –patient encounters.
  6. Research and writing skills to assess impact of educational programs; write curriculum, standardized patient scenarios and grants to support educational efforts.
  7. Organizational skills to coordinate, ensure equitable access and/or schedule resident videotape sessions, addiction rotations, and participation in Wellness Group Medical Visits.
  8. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail of work time when teaching, interviewing, providing therapy, maintaining records, etc.
