  A: You must apply for positions by organization. Some of our organizations accept resumes but most require an application be submitted for a specific position. Please follow the application process outlined by organization.

  A: No, MMC does not accept paper applications but we do provide free access to computer terminals in our employment office lobby at 7 Bramhall Street, Portland, Maine.

• Q: If I'm not qualified for the position I've selected, will I automatically be considered for other positions?

  A: No. To be considered for opportunities at MMC, you must apply for the specific position of interest.

• Q: I don’t see a specific position I’m interested in, what can I do?

  A: Create a profile at mmc.jobs and sign up for a job agent in a selected area of interest. Our system will then email you once your selected position of interest become available.

  A: We are committed to reviewing all applications promptly. However, if you are not selected for the position you will be notified and encouraged to continue to apply for other opportunities for which you are qualified.

• Q: Do you offer a referral bonus?

  A: Yes, we pay a referral bonus to current employees that refer qualified applicants who are subsequently hired for a full or part time position at MMC. Referral bonuses do not apply to per diem or temporary positions.

• Q: I have applied for a specific position several times but have not been selected to interview, why is that?

  A: We often times receive several applicants for our positions, this leads to intense competition and we select those who best match our needs. In addition, you may not meet the qualifications for the position and / or the manager’s preferences. Please read the job description as preferences may be indicated.

• Q: I don’t remember my user name and/or password for my candidate profile. How do I obtain this information?

  A: Our applicant tracking system allows you to retrieve your username and password, go to applicant login screen and select forgot username or password

• Q: I'm an internal applicant. Will my resume remain confidential?

  A: Yes. Your application will not be known to your manager unless you are in the pool of finalists and authorize the hiring manager to speak with your supervisor during the reference check process.

• Q: How should I prepare for my interview?

  A: First of all, congratulations on making it to the next step in the hiring process. Your recruiter will provide details about the interview, such as the time and directions to your interview site. However, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  * Before you come in, write down your responsibilities, challenges, and accomplishments from previous positions and how they might prepare you for a position at MMC. Dress appropriately. Of course, dress codes vary across jobs, but professional attire is always appreciated. Our offices and hospital are "fragrance free" - this means you should not wear perfume, cologne, or scented products of any kind since it can be uncomfortable to certain patients. If you have questions about the interview process or about what skills the position requires - check with your recruiter. He/she will be your coach for your interview at MMC.

  * Smile! Interviews can make people nervous. But remember, we're excited to meet you, and we want to see you do your best by letting your enthusiasm show.

  A: Salaries are market based and can vary based upon experience, job requirements, schedules and level of responsibility. We invite you to discuss salary and compensation questions directly with your recruiter. We do not share salary information regarding specific positions until you have applied to the position.

  A: The general rule of thumb is for you to be in a position for a minimum of six months before consideration is given for transferring within MMC.

• Q: What are the employment options offered at Maine Medical Center?

  A: MMC offers different employment options, both full-time and part-time shifts, as well as other types of employment, to fit a variety of schedules. These options include:

  • Full-time: 40 hours per week -- eligible for benefits
  • Part-time: 20 hours or more per week -- eligible for benefits
  • Per Diem: Employed on an as-needed basis.
  • Internship: Availability depends on departmental interest and course preparation.
  • Temporary: Assignments available for project work or extended absence coverage.

• Q: What kind of support do you offer new leaders?

  A: When new leaders are hired, we are committed to effectively orienting them to MMC. Using the LEAD Competency-Based Development Plan we provide information, ongoing support and access to resources to acclimate new leaders to their roles. We arrange for MMC Leadership mentors to ensure that new leaders complete the LEAD orientation program within the first six months of hire into a management role.

• Q: What is the process for new employees coming onboard?

  A: If you are offered Employment at Maine Medical Center…..

  1. Employment offers and start dates are contingent upon passing a post offer pre-placement medical and drug screening in our Employee Health Department, successful demonstration of eligibility to work in the United States, and successful results of a background investigation.

  2. Following your initial Employee Health appointment, you will be directed to the Human Resources Employment Office where you will complete the required employment documents:

  • Employee Emergency Information Data Sheet
  • State of Maine W-4 tax withholding form
  • Federal W-4 tax withholding form
  • I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification. Please note: this document requires you to provide original documents that establish both identity and employment eligibility (i.e., valid passport or current driver’s license and social security card).

  Individuals will be unable to begin work at MMC until all required documents and supporting documentation are submitted.

  3. We are MMC Orientation will be scheduled for the first day of your employment. Part II of your orientation will be scheduled within the first 30 days of your employment.
